Installing WHS on ML115 G5

Ensure primary disk is >=60Gb
Have NC105i LAN drivers available on a CD or USB (uncompressed)
Have SMBus driver available on a CD or USB (uncompressed)
WHS can be installed from CD or USB. Set boot option order in BIOS
Boot machine into CD or USB media
Select Country and Language
Enter WHS Key
Server will reboot. If installing from USB, ensure server reboots from HD first. Do not remove USB or CD at this stage; install hasn’t finished
Once installed, remove USB/CD and reboot
Check your HD’s have been added
Check Device Manager
Four items will be marked for attention (Yellow exclamation)
Click the first, install driver and point to your LAN driver USB/CD
Reboot
Check you have network connectivity
Check Device Manager
Highlight second exclamation
Install driver and point to your SMBus driver
Reboot
(Last two unknown device drivers can be ignored – related to WMI)
Enter the WHS Console
Enter Settings
Download all Windows Updates
Patch machine up to PP3
Several reboots later…WHS working
Load connector software onto all machines you want to backup with WHS
Create user accounts
Test connectivity with WHS
Add shared data (music/photos/documents) to the shared folders on WHS
Check connectivity to these folders
Enable folder duplication on your shared folders
Set up machine backups
Set up an external drive, if required, to back up your backups (!)
